National Health Mission (NHM) is now called as NRHM (National Rural Health Mission) & NUHM (National Urban Health Mission).National Rural Health Mission (NRHM) has an aim of bringing a drastic change in the health system and the health status of the people specially those living in rural areas of the country. It also provides affordable and quality health care, population stabilization which would help to achieve goals that are set under the National Health Policy and the Millennium Development Goals.
The National Rural Health Mission (NRHM) was founded in April 2005 by Former Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh. National Rural Health Mission (NRHM) started at the National Level in April 2005. But in Jammu and Kashmir State it was started in December, 2005, Jammu and Kashmir State is one of the focused States in context to National Rural Health Mission (NRHM). The First phase of NRHM from the year 2005 – 2012 has focus on building infrastructure gaps and provide manpower to improve the delivery of health care services. Second phase of NRHM from 2012 – 2017, has focus that their should be more on health system for suitable conditions of health system in the State.
